Year 2011

Another year passed. It was a pleasant one though. College got over (finally!), passed (that too with good grades! ;-)), got a job (a dream one!) and more or less a smooth life (yeah, finally!). This year had been more of learning than action unlike the previous ones. There was some action. There were heartbreaks. There was what I call a "Damage control" period. And then there was "shut up and move on period! "But then, life isn't supposed to be a joy ride. Is it?

Data Liberation Front :: Google

What makes a company appear "Nice" to people is it's ability to keep things transparent. And Google is a "nice" company. What happened was, I wanted to extract all my emails, chats, contacts from my Gmail account to my local storage. I knew I can do that using Thunderbird, but I was looking for a better solution. More specifically, I wanted to understand how Thunderbird or any other IMAP/POP client actually worked. That's when I hit the  http://www.dataliberation.org/  website. Google allows users to "Liberate" data. So coding a simple solution to fetch all mail through IMAP and store on my computer was not a big deal after that. Bottom line is : Google is good. And you get to learn a lot when you really are on a quest!

Fail Upwards

For those of you looking for inspiration. When I was 18, I wanted to be a fine artist. So I applied to seven art schools all over the UK. Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Exeter, etc. But I got turned down by all of them. Then my sister told me to apply to art school in New York. Out of desperation, I did. And I got accepted, and I got a scholarship. And when I went to New York I switched to advertising. And it changed my life. But, if I hadn’t been turned down by those seven art schools, it never would have happened. After four years in New York I came back to London. I knew nothing about UK advertising. So I made fifty Xerox copies of my portfolio and sent it to the first fifty names in the Yellow Pages. I got forty nine rejections, out of fifty applications. Only one person offered me a job. John Webster. I didn’t know who John Webster was. He’d only just been made ECD at BMP. I was the first person John hired. And I wouldn’t have taken the job if it hadn’t be...

15 minutes of dilemma

'grrrrrr grrrrrr' , I turned to my phone which stood steadily on my study table, and I saw her name flashing on the screen. There was a time when nothing else gave me as much joy as her name on that screen. But today it was different. Something surely had changed. But I had to be strong. I had to give her what she wanted. "I want a break" , she had said. I had to make sure she has her break even if that meant breaking my own self. "The next time we meet, we would meet as friends" "...if we meet"

15 minutes of anguish

I stood there. Unshaken. I did not follow. I could not. Something in me stopped me. I saw her go, until she was far beyond sight. And then, a drop of tear rolled through my left eye, making its way down through my face only to meet its fate on the barren earth. The reality had hit me. It hit me hard. But I had to pull myself up. I had to let her go. But something had changed. I had lost a part of 'me' somewhere. Or rather she had taken it with her. And I had lost 'that' smile. ~ Prince Mishra

15 minutes of courage

"I Quit" , said she and walked out as briskly as she could, her face as stern as a stone. She didn't look back. I wanted her to. I felt helpless, somewhat creepy, and a sudden chill went down my spine. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to just run away. Run away from her. Run away from this world. Run away to some distant place where I could be myself. Some place where I could cry to my heart's content. But I was not one of those who would leave the ground, wounded! I had always been the one who took life head on. So was it the time to lean back and contemplate what actually went wrong? No. That won't be the man, the world knew! So.. was it the time to build a castle around my feelings and play cold? ~ Prince Mishra

15 minutes of agony

"What do you want me to do? I have had enough!"   said I, with a frisk of disbelief in her. I had no idea what I was up to, but I had turned down logic long back. "Nothing. If you could just understand me..." , the reply came. Somewhere deep inside my mind, I knew this day would come. But it'll be this soon, I didn't expect. But life, is, beyond expectations. It gives you all what you desire the moment you expect it the least, and takes away everything, the time you want it the most! So what exactly was it that I desired? What did I want? Did I really wanted her to be mine, or was it just the fear of loosing to some retarted fool that drove me crazy? Nonetheless, there was agony. And there was the desire. And the fear. It was a mixed bag of emotions and she was in the middle of it, and so was I. ~ Prince Mishra

15 minutes of Life

These days I hardly get any time for anything i want to do, blogging being one of them. So I am starting this new series. The 15 minutes of life , wherein I will be spending a good 15 minutes to update the best things that happened to me in the day. This way, I will buy some more time to think on larger posts without compromising on my presence here. Moreover, thinking about the best things that happen, give a sweet end to the day.

After college musings!

27th june 2011 was my last day at the place I called my home away from home. AIT. Life had been a roller-coaster ride since. Though I have been living my dream of working at Druva, however there are things that are beyond work, and that I realized in my last 4 months of stay in the real, bitter world! Bitter. Why I call it bitter is because it doesn't always work the way you want it to. Times change. People change. And changing times change people. Your best friends who share a part of your soul now live in cities far far away. People you had lunch with everyday are people you call once a week. The girl who invaded your dreams once becomes someone you hardly care for. People you trusted with all your heart for years, break your trust. However, there will always be a new house to find, a deadline to run after, loans to apply for and bills to put your hands on! So perhaps I am at the crossroads of change once again. And if I were to quote a fellow blogger People I once shared my...
