Aakriti 2009

AAKRITI 2009!

Guys, the academic year 2009 has started and we are to witness AAKRITTI yet again! but what's the big deal about it? we've already seen two of them!
yes we've been through the event twice, but this time it's different!
This time it's us, this time it is OUR AAKRITTI, this time it is our WAR!

Rather more than a year has passed since the last AAKRITTI... what a cataract of disaster had poured upon us then... we saw the dramatic yet heroic rise of the MECHIES, and the almighty ENTC sweeping the event!
Meanwhile, we have not only fortified our hearts, but our minds too!

We have rearmed and rebuilt our cricket team in a degree which would have been deemed impossible an year back! and presumably, we own the best cross-country team ever! The girls' volley-ball team, the baddy team, table-tennis, squash and basketball teams have all been worked upon! We have some of the best debators, jammers, play-writs, dancers, painters and actors!

But why do i say all this? Not, assuredly, to boast; not assuredly, to give the slightest countenance to complacency. The dangers we face are still enormous, but so are our advantages and resources. I recount them because the people have a right to know that there are solid grounds for the confidence which we feel, and that we have good reason to believe ourselves capable of continuing the war...!
We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back.

I am not unmindful that MECH has a strong cricket and football team, IT has the best squash team and the bestest volley-ball players, nor am I unmindful of ENTC's Prashant Tomar's reign in baddy...what I believe in is,
"Life's battles don't always go to the strongest or the fastest..but in the end, the one who wins is the one one who thinks HE CAN!"

We may be sure, therefore, that we will continue as long as we have the strength to do so…

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the AITian dream.

I have a dream that one day, COMP will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed, "compies are risky, after the whisky."

I have a dream that in the choreo this year, we will see the finest dance by Rawat's boys!
I have a dream that I will dine with Shekhu, Dobal and Barun as the winners of Folk, an event that has a dreadful history!I have a dream that our LIM's team will cast a spectacular charm of their melody and will keep the audience spellbound!I have a dream today!I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain that comes between us and the AAKRITI trophy shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight! and then we will rise up... rise up the Raman's stage... and 'Our Precious' AAKRITI will be ours yet again!

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I blast off the AAKRITI '09 with! With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our unabilities into a beautiful symphony of luck.

With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to perform together, to stand up for victory together, knowing that we will WIN one day.

Regards,
PRINCE MISHRA

How the Python import system works

How the Python import system works From:  https://tenthousandmeters.com/blog/python-behind-the-scenes-11-how-the-python-import-system-works/ If you ask me to name the most misunderstood aspect of Python, I will answer without a second thought: the Python import system. Just remember how many times you used relative imports and got something like  ImportError: attempted relative import with no known parent package ; or tried to figure out how to structure a project so that all the imports work correctly; or hacked  sys.path  when you couldn't find a better solution. Every Python programmer experienced something like this, and popular StackOverflow questions, such us  Importing files from different folder  (1822 votes),  Relative imports in Python 3  (1064 votes) and  Relative imports for the billionth time  (993 votes), are a good indicator of that. The Python import system doesn't just seem complicated – it is complicated. So even though the  documentation  is really good, it d

On working remote

The last company I worked for, did have an office space, but the code was all on Github, infra on AWS, we tracked issues over Asana and more or less each person had at least one project they could call "their own" (I had a bunch of them ;-)). This worked pretty well. And it gave me a feeling that working remote would not be very different from this. So when we started working on our own startup, we started with working from our homes. It looked great at first. I could now spend more time with Mom and could work at leisure. However, it is not as good as it looks like. At times it just feels you are busy without business, that you had been working, yet didn't achieve much. If you are evaluating working from home and are not sure of how to start, or you already do (then please review and add your views in comments) and feel like you were better off in the office, do read on. Remote work is great. But a physical office is better. So if you can, find yourself a co-working s

Todo lists are overrated

My tasks come from a variety of sources: 1) Tasks from emails  2) Meeting notes with details of people who participated  3) Project related tasks that can have a long format and can be tagged/ delegated  4) Scratchpad for unrefined ideas  5) Detailed documentation for completed technical tasks / ideas  6) FIFO list of high priority small daily tasks No one app has been able to map all the requirements above, and I have tried a lot of them! In my lifetime I’ve tried a dozen todo apps. In the beginning they all seem different, novel and special. Slick UI, shortcuts, tags, subtasks, the list goes on and on. But all our stories were the same: I start using the new app, then after awhile I stop using it. Up until the last week I thought the problem was in myself (you probably think so too). After all, David Allen seems to have figured this shit out. Also there are people leaving long 5 star reviews on every major todo list app, they discuss them on forums, recommend them to friends. But the
